Northeast Nebraska | WOW, not good. Also glad to hear no one was hurt!! It looks like maybe the coorrosion resistant coating was not applied in that area? Or poorly applied on that piece altogether? Sure is rusty in that other spot too (left of the break) hmmmm...
Get your dealer to help you with this a bit more... get ahold of an area rep (I forget the proper title of this person.. regional something???) and enlist their help to get this resolved. You might also look on a Ford Forum (like this one) to see if others have had the same issue and what their resolution was. I looked through 4 pages of the first one of these found below and nothing about bad axles. good luck!!
