Subject: RE: The age of local farmers - something to think about

SW Ontario
Lower asset values will bring them back. Around here, it now takes at least 20 years of hard work off farm to pay for a piece of 100 acre ground. A generation ago, this number was closer to 5 years. And more acres are required today to successfully farm. The incentive to own property is a great motivational driver to become a farmer, but when this becomes out of reach, the hard working motivated young folk will choose other paths. I can't think of a single person under 30 years old that has purchased a farm without family assistance around here over the last 10 years.
