Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa | Went to college and trained as a medical technologist and worked that job for several years til we got into the great times of the '80s and I could contribute more to keeping the farm going by working there than in the workforce. No insurance benefits attached to jobs in those days, so there wasn't the incentive to keep a job for that. When I went back to the public workplace in the mid-'90s, it was to Farm Credit. They reorganized in '99 and my job description was eliminated, along with several offices in the Midwest. Found an opening in the Product Test Dept of Deere Hay and Forage working with the Test Technicians who were out at remote test sites with experimental machines. Loved that job to death....bunch of great young techs who loved their jobs too. Went from the remote testing platform to the Experimental Shop helping to set up shop orders and requirements for pre-production parts, etc. And then I became a Granny and retired. Best gig I've ever had!! ;~) |
