We went from crank phone to dial in about 1960. Our new number had a prefix of TH3 which turned into 843 a few years later in the mid-60's. We still had to dial 0 to talk to the operator to make a long distance call. When the prefix was changed from TH3 to 843, if I told the operator my number is TH3, she would sternly remind me 'YOU MEAN 843'! LOL
