![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=16655&type=profile&rnd=746) NW Iowa | I am an Ag Engineer...been in the work force for 11 years. Started out doing CAFO permits. That is a position that would require a PE if you want to work towards the top. I have my EIT, took the PE exam after switching jobs, but didn't pass it. Didn't study enough! I am now working at a shortline equipment mfg, working primarily on feed mixers, spreaders, roller Mills, and baggers. It is a very fast paced environment since there is such a diversity of stuff. I don't need a PE to do this, and no one else there has one either.
My current job is an hour commute for me one way. Finding positions in the area is somewhat difficult since I farm as well. Can't really just pick up and move to Waterloo or Racine for example.
It's a rewarding occupation. Especially when you think of all the times you've cussed engineers for doing something stupid. When I'm designing something I always like to think how can I fix it...in the middle of the field with limited tools to boot.
Good luck in your decision! | |
