Good call on checking the Christmas tree and rpms.
I’m not saying the belt isn’t shot but I’ve seen some pretty rough looking belts that still ran. Check into belt tension and maybe check to see if the main drive clutch is slipping at all. If you already have the belt you will know pretty quick if that’s the problem.
