Subject: RE: Claas 900 chopper help

Waterville, MN
You should be able to load it to 1800-1850 rpm and run all day long there. That gives you a little forgiveness if you get a slug it can dip to 1550-1650 (start pulling back on the stick). They will wake up a little extra at night due to cooler drier air, but sounds like yours is a significant change and something else is going on.

In 10 ton corn you should be able to fly (8 row head?), is it shorter and feeding uneven?

These areas would not likely be effected by night vs day but power tips in general:
like others have said - knives - both chopper & head.
Is your stone adjusted?- you may be sharpening, but not grinding a good edge on the knives
Shearbar - the other half of the scissors - should be square cornered and gapped to about 3,
Drum bottom - there are shims to pull out to keep the drum bottom up tight as the knives wear back
Accelerator paddles - make sure not wore and gap at 3 mm - maybe a little wider with flat paddles if it blows good
Make sure your header speed matches your Length of cut - you want a steady flow off the head into the feedrolls - there is a high/low for the head on the left side of the feederhouse.
Like others have said - fuel & air filters, turbo

Even if these aren't causing your trouble if you haven't looked at them they will be worth your time to check and may solve at least part of the problem.

Good Luck
