Blue Grass (Eastern IA) | This is my 16-year-old son's first tractor restoration project. My grandpa bought it new in 1957 and gave it to my parents as a wedding present in 1967. It was our feed wagon and silage unloading tractor for 30 years until it was retired in 1998. It had been parked in the barn ever since.
My son decided to restore it in tribute to his great grandpa who would have been 100 years old this year. When we pulled it out this spring the engine was stuck. It got a complete engine overhaul, new clutch, new radiator, carb job, rear axle seals, 12 V conversion with electronic ignition, plus all the usual restoration things you do. He spent about 300 hours on it. We have a neighbor that restores classic cars who let my son use his paint booth and equipment to paint it.
It turned out much better than I could've imagined. It was champion at our county fair. Blue ribbon at the Iowa State fair. champion questers heritage award at Iowa State fair and 2nd place restoration from the IH collectors club. The IH collectors club invited us to display it at the farm progress show. It will be located in the annex with all the antique tractors if you happen to be there please stop by and snap picture with it and email it to me with your name and city. My wife is putting together a scrapbook with as many pictures as we can get . [email protected]
Thanks
