NW Washington | My late FIL grew in during those times in the Palouse and he told of riding on the combine as a boy with a BB gun to sting the horses that were slacking off and not pulling.
My wife's uncle said that he only worked one harvest with a guy who used horses to pull the combine. Once was enough. Harness horses before breakfast and care for them before supper and then to bed made for long hard days.
