NW Washington | An old curmudgeon in Idaho argued for many years that property tax on farm land should be changed to a surcharge on the property owners federal income tax. That way farmers and property owners only paid taxes on what the property earned and if you had a crop failure you paid little or nothing and vice versa. He is long dead and gone and nothing has changed.
Jimmy Carter once said when folks started cutting federal and state income taxes, "someone is going to pay". And the payer will be someone with little or no political power. | |
