It is a crap shoot really. I have two semi loads of pipe fence at my place. Most of it is the reject new pipe but some is used. I don’t remember off the top of my head the color codes but most used tubing is tested by the oil companies before selling it. They check (X-ray maybe? ) for wall thickness and it either passes and they keep using it or it fails and they sell it off. There are different degrees of failing represented by different markings.
Some used pipe is ok and virtually all of it will be fine for some period of time but stuff that is badly worn won’t last. The labor costs more than the material so at least in my eyes it makes sense to buy good pipe and have it last a lifetime instead of having to redo it ten years down the road.
By the way I have no affiliation with go bob and I think their prices are high but they have some very good info. If you get the livestock weekly newspaper there are usually a lot of pipe advertisements in there for big pipe yards that likely have some reject pipe. |
