I have an Unverferth 1115 graincart. Last year I pulled it with a tractor that has a Cat IV (2" diameter hitch pin) drawbar. This year I'm going to pull it with a tractor that has a Cat III (1.5" diameter hitch pin) drawbar. I know it's only 1/2" difference but it really looked like there was just going to be way too much slop between the tongue of the graincart and the hitch pin of the tractor. Before anyone suggests it, Bull Pull hitch is not an option due to the fact that the cart has scales and a Bull Pull hitch is not compatible with the front weigh bar. So in my research on how to take some of the slop out I called Brent. They had a bushing kit that consisted of 2 o-rings, a bushing as well as a poly wear plate. The first picture below shows that bushing kit on an Unverferth cart parts diagram. I don't know why they have it shown horizontally. They also don't show the wear plate on the Unverferth diagram. It shows two different bushings but one is for a 1.75" pin (I think that's the right diameter) and the other is for a 1.5" pin. We looked at a Brent cart diagram (Brent and Unverferth the same company) and it showed the bushing kit in the vertical orientation as shown in the second picture. It also showed the wear plate. All of the part numbers were the same as what was on the Unverferth diagram: I went ahead and ordered the kit for the 1.5" pin. This morning I started messing with it. I'm still not really sure what the o-rings are for. Here is what it looks like on the drawbar without the cart hooked up: You can see that if you were to pull the bushing out and then get the cart tongue lined up with the drawbar hitch pin hole, then there would not be enough room to install the bushing without removing the hammerstrap. Below you can see how much slop there is between the hitch pin and the tongue of the cart without the bushing: Below you can see how the bushing kit takes the slop out of the tongue on the cart. It looks maybe tighter than it should be but that is because of the o-ring. The bushing can tilt forward/back left/right some with respect to the tongue of the graincart. Below is a video of the movement between the pin and the tongue of the graincart. You will notice that with very much movement the o-rings quickly fall out of place. I assume the only purpose of the o-rings is to hold the bushing in place while you hook the cart up so that no-one gets smashed trying to hook up and so that it's a one man job to hook up with the bushing in place. If that is the case though, I really don't understand why there are 2 o-rings. The one on top easily holds the bushing in place. I assume just to assist in hooking up but maybe I just don't understand 2. Is this bushing going to get beat up and make it really challenging to unhook the cart from the tractor? I really don't want to have to start cutting the hitch apart at a later date. The bushing is a split bushing. I'm also wondering since the bushing is not tall enough to fill the space between the hammerstrap and the drawbar if it will be possible for the grain cart to go over the bushing. I guess that should not happen though since the bushing is too tall for me to install it when the cart tongue is resting on the drawbar. Think this will work OK or is it asking for trouble? Thanks.
