That dog loves you and wants to be with you... If riding in the truck with you is not an option, Then I would say build a kennel 10x10 or so. He will like this much more than being on a chain... and a kennel is much safer than a chain.
Just remember, one day he won't be there to follow you around, and you'll wish he could ride in the truck with you.
