Fruita CO | When my son was in New York City setting up a tramway across the bay he had to work with union electricians. The day would go about like:
7-show up, work until 9.
9-coffee break.
10-12-work.
12-lunch
1:30 or so until 3-work.
3-go home.
He was an engineer, so technically management, so he wasn't allowed to even pick up a screwdriver, but sometimes after the electricians left for the day, he would get his tools & wire up about twice as much by 5 as they did all day. Took 6 months to do about a 2 month job.
As to the original question, if you are receiving union benefits, yes you should pay dues.
