NW Indiana | I am in a building trades union. In the trades there is no seniority and there is always somebody after your job. If somebody else can do it better or faster you are out the door. If you can't keep up with what is expected of you, then you're out the door. We bust our butts every day to insure the contractor makes money. If they don't we will be out of a job as they will be out of business.
As for the prevailing wage, here in Indiana when our vice president was the governor, he signed the bill abolishing prevailing wage. He said it would save 25% on construction costs. I thought that was funny, because the only way that would happen is if construction workers didn't get paid as about 25% of all construction costs is labor.
