Texas
I farm close to your area and your best bet is to contract it in the field ahead of time... This way you are only contracting acres, not tons... Trying to store and deliver is very risky... The last few years it has been easy to find a buyer at harvest time, but that only works if the price is still good at harvest... Try to find a good solid dairy to work with that is close to your farm... I don't know if your talking corn or sorghum silage, but either one works good in your area... Corn has been contracted for $35 to $40 per ton this year, mostly in the $38 dollar range(in the field) I've been working with dairies in your area for years and so far I've always got paid, but this year is a little more risky... If milk comes back by harvest and grains stay close to where they are now, you should be OK with a contract... But they're not really worth the paper they're written on if the dairy goes under... That's a risk you take with anyone though, even the big grain companies... Good Luck
