I've enjoyed it as well maybe sometime I will have more time to put together some thoughts.
I don't think it is wise to send kids to college for a 4 year degree anymore. ( I have a college education by the way) My oldest went through a tech school that had a John Deere sponsored program. Graduated with an excellent knowledge of new technology and he still has me for the old school stuff. HA! My next son went to a trade school and learned to weld and some basic Tool and Die stuff along with programing for CNC machines. My youngest son starts an apprenticeship with an electrician next year.
They all have trade skills that will be useful when they want to come back to the farm. I have worked in industry off and on for 25 years. started out working with vacuum tubes and Diodes. Now fairly handy with PLC's photo eyes, And other logic systems in manufacturing.
I found a lot of people that are willing to give info to a guy who is genuinely interested in asking questions.
I know Robots are in my future. I also know that I better be able to do everything on it cause De Laval already said I am to far away for traditional support. I started quizzing the tech on some stuff and felt reasonably assured I could do more with it after a few weeks then he could. Hence my desire to get my kids into fields that had a broad range of application and demand. Red Green was right if they can't find you handsome they better find you handy!
