![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=52934&type=profile&rnd=154) Central IA | It’s about zones and area of control. Ground handles taxiways, at least 2 separate frequencies for that. Ground control is the hardest at O’Hare imo. We usually land on north runway and go to general aviation ramp. But still have to change frequencies on ground.
Tower, controls runway(s). At least 2 different tower freqs, one for north and one for south runways.
There are a lot of approach/departure freqs. They will be zones and altitude. Like west bound, north bound etc.
Example, after getting clearance. On ramp, non-movement area. You call ground, ground gives instruction to get to runway. Might be quick, might take 30+ minutes with 10 turns and follow that plane ...., get to runway, but not on. Some airports you call tower, most busy airports you monitor tower when u get there tower clears for takeoff, will make changes to clearance. Quick changes, like different initial heading or altitude. Very shortly after takeoff, go to departure. Gets you going on route, may be quick, may take a bit. Hand of to next controller. Another departure, most likely first departure only has a few miles from airport and up to 10000 or so. Then second controller and so on.. Clear as mud right. | |
