South-central Nebraska | MY BAD!!!!!!!! I wasn't clear. In reference to the soil being too loose, that is my opinion and would apply to all strip-till units or any tillage for that matter. My concern with loose soil is only the fact that I have a JD planter in which I run Case-IH gauge wheels. I have been told that this setup works best when the sidewalls are firm unlike that in tilled ground where the sidewall can collapse before the seed is dropped.
I currently run row cleaners on my planter as well, forgot to state that. As far as the Dawn Pluribus, I actually am most impressed by its design because it DOES NOT run a ripper shank like most others. I simply want a blackened strip of ground, free of residue. Plus, it uses a lot less power. Unfortunately as I mentioned earlier, our JD dealer does not have the Pluribus out, only the Redball. So, that is what I am going to try for now. Sorry for the confusion. | |
