Subject: County Agent program.

Big Country Area, area in and around Abilene TX

The question is about the County Agent program.

Is there really a need for the County Agent program these days??

I suspect that there could a reduction of the number of County Agents and you most likely would not notice it at all for the most part.

Texas has 254 counties. I think that 1 County Agent could handle 4 counties with no trouble at all. 1 day in each county and Friday to finish up any additional loose ends.

That should reduce the number of County agents to less than 70 easy.

And I suspect that the same can be said of the Home Ec. Agent as well. I think that I got the title right on that one.

Of course, with the wide and varied sources of information available these days on the many and various websites including the colleges and Universities, the need for having any of those folks is very small indeed.

Total defunding of the County Agent extension program may well be overdue.

What is your opinion about this, Pro or Con?
