Subject: CRP

Edge of RRV MN
Long Post:
I farm across the road from almost 400 acres that was accepted into CRP. The previous tennent has been farming this land for almost 40 years and the landowners decided to put it into CRP. The soils are classified as highly productive so they get the maximum payment allowed. These two fields one an 80 and the other almost 320 will not allow a local person an opportunity to generate a profit and to spend the profit in our local area. Our friends from Ducks Unlimited or Pheasant Forever also kicked in some bonus money as well as the bonus for Walk in Access. When you add all the extra incentives into the equation it would be the highest cash rent paid in our area compliments of our tax dollars.

To make matters worse the NRCS views the weeds as a cover crop to help establish the new seeding so if we get a strong south wind I will get the pleasure of having weeds tumble on my property.

I have heard of others who can’t get there poor soils put back in CRP but why does something this nice need to get accepted? It is about 1/2 mile from a river but the soil is not classified as highly erodible
