Subject: Essex crops

North of London
There are some tough looking crops in Essex this year.
The late planting probably in soil that was not quite ready is showing now it is dry.
Trip to cottage across #42 has some corn that needs a drink NOW and some soys that could be better too.
Went down early Saturday and saw first wheat combined just before Tilbury, just a part of a field.
Saw several more across #42 that had been started and a small field that was finished with header on cart and several hopper wagons as well as an augur so figured they had just finished it at dark on Friday night.

Home later this aft and many fields off now as well as straw and lots of machines running all the way up to Chatham but none from there.

Hearing tonight that crops are in bad need of rain north of me. Clinton through to Hanover.

Hope all on here have been lucky to get enough rain at the right time

Sunset last night with Detroit or its suburbs across the water
