Our local auto supply store sells a gas tank repair for gas or diesel. It comes in a tube & you break off the amount you need & knead it in your hands and apply pver the crack. Metal needs to be clean but oozing gas or diesel won't matter. I repaired a gas tank on one of our grain trucks 7-8 years ago with it & it hasn't leaked since.
