I think the goal of Trump and farmers is trade as free as possible. The question is can we make others open their markets they way we have by restricting imports via our own tariffs for a time. Who knows how this will end. But if you never get tough with negotiations it will never get better, we know that. Unfortunately farmers that depend of exports will take the brunt of the pain and local manufacturers, maybe where our family and neighbors work, get the benefits for now. I hope this does not get out of control because it can. Before China was admitted to the WTO things were better. When a communist country can set prices, steal technology, create phony barriers like health concern from GMO etc. Something has to be done, and with a strong economy maybe now is the time.
