| When you said the switch "kicks on", is it clicking into the on position, and the contacts are together, but the motor is not turning? Or is there a delay for the contacts to click? As another suggested, the switch comes on, electricity applied, but the motor has to cool down before its internal thermal switch resets and starts? Or is the switch contacts clicking on and coming together, but carbon buildup from arcing on the switch contacts is hindering current from flowing? Only a tiny bit of current can get through before it "melts" and current is restored and motor starts? Start by rubbing fine sandpaper between the switch contacts 'til its shiny again ( with the power shut off, of course).
Highly recommend an AC voltage test probe. Fully insulated and safe, for voltage detection and rapid diagnosis of wiring problems
