C IL | I guess I’ll disagree. You put 10 or 20x the load of VOC’s in the same area and you get more odor in that area. You build a deeper pit with less surface area you get more anaerobic conditions and more odor when it is turned/spread. You cut back on the ratio of bedding to manure because you have 10x the Animals and not 10x the land, you get more odor. You spread 5x the acres you used to in a single day, more odor. Honey wagon throws the stuff higher and farther than before, more odor, not a much better way to put that odor out into the air than that.
Management changes bring new challenges and solutions. Some manage them better than others. Pit additives, windbreaks downwind from the confinement building to force air up and mix to dilute the odor, air biofilters, injection vs spreading, etc.
Bringing in 10x the animals in an area as before changes the character of your neighborhood, we have lived it. You have to adapt the management to address different conditions.
