| Best article on the subject I have come across: https://www.pioneer.com/home/site/us/agronomy/library/night-temperat...
Of course there will be those on this site that claim all this nighttime temperature talk is bs, and that we have all the moisture in the world right now which will make up for warm temps, and any other number of statements to discredit the science, but I would encourage you to read the article and also search Elwynn Taylor's comments on the subject--or look at grain fill temps for August 2010 compared to August 2017 temps and compare those two years to trend on corn yield.
For what it is worth, in 2010 we had a well above average amount of rainfall in Iowa, just like we do this year. In 2017 we had below normal rainfall for most locations in Iowa. 2010 corn yield was well below trend, 2017 was above trend--so what was different? Nighttime temperatures in August 2010 were well above the average, 2017 they were below....All I am saying is it bears watching. | |
