FWIW, for anything bigger than a squirrel I recommend CCI Stingers in a .22 long rifle. I once took down a dog (not a Pointer but about that size) with one shot at 90 yards. He didn't drop immediately but he was dead before I could get to him. After the hit, which was about the middle of his rib cage on his left side, he ran about another 50 yards and dropped stone dead. I was shooting a Browning .22 lever action carbine. Don't use them on small game that you intend to eat (squirrel, rabbit, etc.). It tears them up too bad. Once caught a rabbit just below where his ears fasten to his head and it took off half his skull.
