There is a little community organic garden in town.

They started out on a pile of dirt near the river that was a temporary levee a flood year, it was considered contaminated dirt because it touched the flood waters and piled there.

It was clay, so it didnt grow much. The organic promoter talked a trucking firm into hauling in 12 inches of compost for free.

Then we had a couple dry years, so the organic promoter talked a local lawn firm to donate $50,000 of irrigation to the garden.

Then the next year, front page paper, was a story on how much better the organic garden is, and how sustainable it is and how much smaller footprint, how good for the environment that garden was compared to the rest of us farmers.

Huh. Such a deal.

Me, I actually used to like organic operations, but the frothing fanfare many make for their superiority has gotten old for me over time.
