I see those things in a different category. If I gave my pastor a gift for Christmas, or his birthday, I would wonder about his manners if it wasn't acknowledged.
A gift to the church treasury is different, as far as I am concerned. More like a business transaction. I don't expect the guys at the implement dealer to send me a thank you note whenever I make a purchase.
