Subject: RE: Amoniated straw ?

Just outside downtown Prairie Hill
We did this long ago. Works, but a lot of trouble. I will add a couple of ideas... Try to get a pipe or hose so you can release the NH3 under the straw a ways inside instead on on the edge. The plastic will inflate like a balloon so make sure the edges are well weighted...we used dirt. At that time we had a 2 bottom plow Dad used in the garden, so we created a dead furrow to put the edges in and then rolled the dirt on the plastic. You are going to have to do some guesstimating on NH3. Try to get the amount in the tank that you will need so you can let the tank empty. When all is ready just crack the valve partially open and leave. The plastic will gradually inflate. It will take several days for the plastic to come back down. Leave everything in place for a few days before you retrieve the equipment. I always left the sealed in hose until we opened the plastic to feed... Be cautious.... Good luck
