SESD | Sitting waiting for fertilizer, so I'll make a quick response.
The whole old testament provides understanding for the need for Christ. The OT shows how we could never please God or be clean before God and only by Christ's sacrifice through fulfilling the Law by leading a perfect life, which no man has ever or will ever do, can we have the ability to live eternally with him just by accepting the gift there for every man.
Also, Hebrews 9:22, a NT passage states that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. Christ did need to die and she'd his blood to fulfill God's plan. The plan for this was in place ever before creation.
The Bible is a story woven together from beginning to end. If you can trust that God can save, is creator of all, etc. and can't trust when he says He will preserve His Word for all generations, then I guess it does look more like buffet style Christianity. Believing and trusting that the bible, cover to cover, is God's true word applicable today does not mean that every sentence should be carried out. It means that every sentence, when read and understood correctly, leads to a complete understanding of God's plan. | |
