Subject: Thanks to the OP

Manitoba, Canada
I have read every post on this thread and although I don’t like to hear that others have to deal with family issues it is also somewhat comforting to know that I am not the only one dealing with certain personalities.

A person often grows up believing that family is the one safe place in the world that will have your back when things go sideways and it is very hard to accept that sometimes the reality is that the caring isn’t extended back. It can be very hard to open up to others about the issues because often the response to standing up for oneself results in further hurt in the form of lies designed to discredit you in the eyes of others. Often this results in a person having to suffer in silence and that can isolate a person even further from the support that they need as there is a high risk to defending oneself. I highly suspect that many suicides and other issues are the result of people who are left isolated by this type of manipulation and feel they have no where to turn without being hurt even more.

Threads like these probably help many more people than those who actually post on here. So I extend a thank you to the OP, and everyone else, for having the courage to speak up.
