The fact is, people have always picked and chosen what parts of religious texts they will observe. I have been informed right here that the entire Old Testament can now be ignored, superseded by the NT. Talk about being selective!

The fact is that the books of the Bible were written in a slave culture and slavery was accepted as a part of life. A man could sell his 11-year-old daughter into sexual slavery and nobody would question the father's right. Sounds like a case where "rise up and rebel" might be a good thing, rather than cowardly accepting your fate.
