West of Broken Bow | We’ve needed to have utilities put in on certain properties, but that would mean paying a huge fee to the RR to go under the tracks. Even just going under a decrepit, low speed track that only sees two or three short length trains a week, the price they wanted was ridiculous. It wasn’t like a few thousand or anything close.
It’s one of those tracks where the very minimum of any maintenance required is performed. Cross ties need replacing. The trains aren’t supposed to go over 15mph. Most of the time they may not get over 10. If a train isn’t close to either of the two cities around 5 pm, the engineer will shut it down and call for a ride home.
