And considering the pirates of late, how about a herd of pigs on deck trained to jump into small boats?
That was kind of my thought, seems no one has a problem with those ships having water cannons. Why not plumb that water cannon so you can switch from sea water to the fuel tank and give them a good squirt of #4 fuel oil ? If that don't make them want to go away, then flares or tracer bullets could be fired into the fuel soaked boat and crew.
Let the pirates decide what they want squirted at them, progress from salt water to fuel oil to fire, their choice.
