Subject: RE: Don is THE best

SW Saskatchewan
The genre of pencil drawing of farm and ranch life tends to be one with a lot of stereotyped copying going on.

In SW Sask we had our local artist of the style and his works were the requisite retirement gift.

Sadly, my wife and I had stopped for supper at the old hotel in Brawley, California (by the way it is a dead ringer for the Commercial hotel in Maple Creek, Sask) and they had virtually the same prints for sale by their local artist. More or less ruined my appreciation for the art form. But the steaks were good.

But, in a field with so much copying, Don is a breathe of fresh air. I especially liked his print of the Header Barge. Looks like a scene from near the Sweet Grass in Ernie's country.

Not many places in the world they were used.
