Rpron,. I don't know your location. Many areas have well hidden, often unknown, laws that allow use of local Lumber. Many architects, insurance company, code enforcement officer will not work with local Lumber.

Until you start pricing rough cut, green Lumber and actually start working with some of it, the price of kiln dried, machine graded lumber will always seem high.

Knock down some trees, drag them out and saw them yourself and a 2x* will always look like $1.80corn.

Helped a guy build a garage out of rough cut air dryed lumber. It was not my choice of lumber.
