Subject: RE: Geothermal heat for a farm shop?

Last I looked in 2009 geothermal has to be used for 15 or 20 years to pay. The cost of the installation is 2 to 4 times that of LP furnace and efficient central air, but the energy use by the geothermal is significantly less than the cost of LP for the conventional HVAC, but the initial cost is so high it takes a long time for the annual cost savings of running geothermal pays for the high initial cost.

As to keeping the shop floor at 50 that depends on the thermal leakage of the floor and the shop walls, windows, door,s and roof. Insulation when building is another up front cost that pays in the long run and pays for all heat and cooling techniques. And that would include a couple inches of foam under the concrete floor.
