Subject: Land line replacement?

NC Iowa
The discussion about phones below reminds me I need to look into some sort of replacement.

Landline is costing me $41 a month, including the anti solicitation feature, which isn't very effective anymore.

I had my number for 40 years so it is out there enough so i would like to keep it. I do not want this number on a cell phone as I wouldn't want to deal with all the marketing calls on the cell. Yes, I am on the do not call list but that is a joke, even with the anti solicitation plan.

Someone mentioned ooma for a phone replacement. That looked promising, as it said computer didn't need to be on. I assume it connects through the router like a smart tv.

I think a store like best buy would have a selection of what is available. Thought I would check here to see if there is any recommendations on what works good, or what to avoid.

Thanks.
