does the warning go away when the 25 pin connector/cable is removed? If so, DO NOT USE THE CABLE. it is may not be a straight through printer cable and may have some pins looped back. using such a cable may be a good way to destroy your EZ-Steer controller. The best solution is to start with a new DB-25 connector and only connect to pin 10 and 11 to the foot switch. forget about trying to salvage an old 25 pin cable, especially if you don't spend any time to see if there are any shorts between any of the other pins on the same connector.

also the EZ-Steer motor cable has 18 ga conductors for the motor current, a normal computer 9 pin extension cable might only have 24 ga wire and the extra resistance can slow down the motor speed and degrade the steering accuracy performance.
