North Dakota | Part of the situation/problem is that our country and its citizens haven’t been truly tested for quite some time. Since the turn of the 20th century we had WWI, The Great Depression and then WWII. All were a galvanizing factor that brought us together economically, morally and socially. We were tempered. Then we let it begin to unravel with the Vietnam War and social disintegration in the sixties. We fractured instead of melding. Government and our increasing reliance upon it as well as the media have perpetuated this segregation along cultural, racial, economic, moral and social lines. I fear another severe test of our citizens. It may completely disintegrate what little unity is left. The family unit is an integral part of the fabric of our country and is dying along with it. | |
