Subject: Do I need a conditioner when cutting hay for baleage?

Northeast Iowa
Gearing up for hay season here on our farm and thinking about replacing our sickle/rubber roller machine with just a plain 3pt mounted disc mower. We put alfalfa, oats/peas, millet, and Sudan grass up as baleage. Rarely make dry hay anymore unless we get perfect weather conditions.

Will I regret not having a conditioner in this situation?

Will a high capacity wheel rake form a windrow behind a disc mower.

Is anyone else doing something like this.

Thanks in advance - JD
