North of London | I am not an expert but I doubt you are going to get new growth above what is already leafed out.
Try bending the twigs above, if still alive they will bend and not just snap.
So leave it for a while to see if anything else sprouts out and if it does not you can cut out the dead branches and allow 1 of the good suckers to grow up from the bottom since there must still be life in the roots.
I might leave all the new growth this year and then prune it back to the best/straightest/longest branch next year before leaves come out. that should get you a decent man stem for the tree to continue to grow up from as you trim off lower branches in future years. | |
