I was in this same situation and my advice would be as follows.........Reconcile the marriage (which we did) or lawyer up....Yes, the lawyer will get paid and paid well, but that is what they do and some do it very well for a lot of money. It's no different than an agronomist, seed salesmen, equipment salesman, etc.

When I was faced with this dilemma I lawyer'd up right away and found out what the process was and what my options were. I wish I never would've had to spend the money as I did not want the divorce, but I'm glad I did so I was prepared and could get my ducks in a row during the process, I didn't want to be the guy that came to a gunfight with a knife.

I'm thankful that I fought for our marriage and did not go all the way through.

Hopefully your friend can reconcile the marriage.
