Northern Illinois | Talk to an attorney. Not so that he can screw his wife out of anything but to find out legally where he stands. I am under the impression that where he stands could potentially hinge on when and how the land was acquired. You do not say when or how he acquired the land. I think that if he purchased and fully paid off 660 acres before he married and than purchased 40 acres after he was married the distribution of the land in a divorce may be different than if he owned no land when they married and than they purchased 700 acres after getting married. The divorce distribution may be different if part of the land was inherited. BUT HE NEEDS TO TALK TO AN ATTORNEY.
