A friend of mine did exactly that. Told the wife pay me half and wouldn't except anything else. Wife didn't want it and the numbers started dropping. He is retired in Florida now. She sold everything after they settled. Not sure whether there was much left, but he said he paid for it once and wasn't going to do it again. I think Obummer got a lot by way of taxes.
