Subject: Where have all the meadowlarks gone? (flickers)

East central Iowa

As a kid I spent a lot of time in the fields and pastures of our farm.  I liked to whistle to the meadowlarks and quail.  We still have a lot of birds that come to our birdbath and feeders. The other day while listing the birds I recognized by their call I realized I haven't seen a meadowlark for years.  Have they all disappeared from the earth?  I live in eastern Iowa and most of our fields are corn or soybeans but the Wapsipinicon river and bottoms aren't far.  And not too far from us there are some hills with pastures.
