You have a perfect opportunity here to train him from the get go. It’s not fun, but in a two years you’ll have a good young man who can do anything you ask him to and probably more. He’s probably not going to no anything when he starts working. But that’s good. You can train him YOUR way. I started working for a farmer 10 years ago when I was 15. I grew up on a farm so I knew a lot but he still was able to teach me more than I knew and how he wanted it done. Ten years later I farm with him and am taking over the farm. It probably was a pain some days he had to run me back and forth but it will work out. Don’t give him all the crap jobs either. Let him come to town with you on a parts run, let him ride with you in a tractor to watch and learn. He should be able to start driving some tractor by next year. Good luck. It takes time and patience to teach, but sometimes that better than getting a older one who thinks he knows how to run the farm better than you.
