Subject: RE: How many hay acres to justify self propelled windrower

South Dakota
want a no crap, good way to make the decision? How much is your current setup costing you in fuel, oil, lubricants, repairs? Go on tractorhouse find out what the tractor and moco is worth. Determine what a good depreciation rate is on a machine of that make model, year and hours for the tractor and make model, year and acres for the moco. Determine what your hours of labor are worth, there’ll probably be labor savings. That all should be your current machinery cost per acre plus labor. Now do the same thing for the self propelled, that would be cost per acre with that machine. Is there cost savings? It’s a business, I’d try to justify it by cost savings. That takes the emotion out of it, cause we all want newer, better machinery and can talk ourselves into justifying it.
